TIPSQI Supervisor sessions
How to mentor a quality improvement project

  • Are you a clinical or educational supervisor for foundation year doctors in the North-West of England Deanery?

  • Would you like to learn how to supervise a foundation doctor undertaking a quality improvement project?

  • Are you looking for an introduction to quality improvement concepts?

We recognise that quality improvement methodology is a subject that is infrequently covered within many undergraduate or post-graduate curricula; and our aim is to support foundation year doctors to complete a quality improvement project in order to pass their foundation ARCP. In addition to this, we recognise consultants and general practitioners who supervise these projects may benefit from additional training in this area; and to that end we are offering a training session on how to supervise a quality improvement project.

Within the session we will cover:

  • The evidence behind quality improvement

  • Barriers to completing a quality improvement project

  • Deming’s Model for Improvement

  • Introduction to QI Tools and methodology, and how explain these concepts to F1/F2 doctors

  • Common pitfalls in quality improvement

  • Tips for how to guide foundation trainees through their first quality improvement project

  • How educational/clinical supervisors can supervise QIPs

These sessions are held virtually on zoom and have been very popular over the past 2 years.

The next session is on June 8th 2022, 14:00 to 17:00

TIPSQI Summer Showcase 2022

To showcase the amazing QIPs being undertaken across the North West, we put on a yearly summer showcase. This is a regional showcase and is a great chance to practice your presenting skills and show off your top quality QI work!

This year, the event is taking place virtually on Tuesday July 12th 2022.

The event will include poster presentations as well as oral presentations. These will be judged by a panel of QI experts alongside our TIPSQI faculty, with prizes for the projects. We are also lucky to have a key-note speaker Gabby Ford, a highly specialised physiotherapist and AQUA (Advancing Quality Alliance) associate, who has pioneered fantastic work within her trust, improving access to physiotherapy with her “go2physio” project.

We will be calling for abstracts from foundation doctors across the NW, and the deadline to submit an abstract is 12th June 2022.

Please email tipsshowcase@gmail.com for more information, and to receive an abstract submission form.

Eventbrite tickets can be booked on the link below. We can’t wait to see you there

TIPSQI Coaching Sessions 2022

Would you like some bespoke advice for your quality improvement project? Stuck with your run chart? Dumbfounded by your SMART aim?

Then look no further!

We are providing bespoke, virtual, 1 on 1 virtual coaching sessions for interested foundation doctors in the North West and Mersey deanery, to provide advice and support with their QI projects. These coaching sessions shall start from January 2022, and shall be run by us faculty members and TIPS QI Mentors – junior doctors that have a keen interest and expertise in QI and teaching. These sessions will take place bimonthy, and will be available in four x 30 minute slots. If you would like to take advantage of this opportunity, please sign up to our eventbrite page below.

As trainees, we are giving up our own free time to run these coaching sessions – so if you do sign up to a session, please write it in your diaries, and let us know if you can’t make it with advanced notice. We normally have a long waiting list for these sessions as they are popular, and have a limited capacity to put on these sessions, so would like to maximise the number of attendees to each session.

We look forward to meeting you!

National Foundation Sessions

In addition to our sessions within the North-West, we piloted our foundation programme on a national platform on January 27th 2022; opening up our session to all foundation doctors within the UK.

Watch this space for future national sessions!
